GST Registration Cancellation & Revocation
Closing down a GST registration you no longer need, or reversing a cancellation that's put your business on hold — both go through us with the paperwork and portal follow-up handled.
Cancellation applies when a business closes down, turnover falls below the applicable threshold, ownership or structure changes through a transfer or merger, or a registration is simply no longer needed and the holder chooses to deregister voluntarily. GST authorities can also cancel a registration on their own — usually for non-filing of returns or another compliance lapse — and that's often the situation people come to us in urgently, since it stops your ability to trade and claim input credit until it's resolved.
If the department cancelled your registration rather than you requesting it, there's a window to apply for revocation before the cancellation becomes final. Getting any pending returns and outstanding liabilities in order first matters here — a revocation application filed while compliance issues are still open gets rejected about as often as it gets approved.
Documents Required
- PAN and GSTIN details of the registration being cancelled or revoked
- Reason for cancellation (closure, threshold, merger, voluntary) and supporting proof
- Details of stock held and any tax liability on that stock, where applicable
- Final return (GSTR-10) filing details, for cancellation
- Copy of the cancellation order and any notice received, for revocation
- Proof that pending returns and dues have been cleared, for revocation
How It Works
Situation Review
We check whether this is a voluntary cancellation, a department-initiated cancellation you want to reverse, or something in between — and what deadline you're working against.
Compliance Clean-Up
Any pending returns, payments, or stock-liability filings are sorted first — this is what most rejected applications are missing.
Application Filing
We file the cancellation or revocation application on the GST portal, backed with the right supporting documents.
Confirmation & Records
Once processed, you get the final order or certificate and a clear record for your files — no ambiguity later about your GST status.
Received a cancellation notice you didn't expect? The clock is running from the date on it.
WhatsApp UsFAQ
What's the difference between cancelling GST registration and revoking a cancellation?
Cancellation ends an active registration — either because you're closing the business, no longer meet the threshold, or choose to deregister voluntarily. Revocation is the opposite: it reverses a cancellation the department initiated, restoring the registration if you apply within the window and clear the underlying issue.
Can I still cancel if I haven't filed all my returns?
Outstanding returns generally need to be filed up to the date of cancellation, along with the final return (GSTR-10) after the order is issued — we check exactly what's pending before filing so the application isn't rejected for an incomplete compliance record.
What happens to input tax credit and stock when I cancel?
Tax on stock held as of the cancellation date — inputs, semi-finished and finished goods, and capital goods — typically needs to be accounted for and paid. We work out this liability as part of the filing so there's no surprise demand later.
My registration was cancelled by the department — can it always be revoked?
Not automatically — revocation is time-bound from the date of the cancellation order, and the application is usually only approved once pending returns and dues are cleared. We check where things stand as the first step, since that determines what's actually possible.
