GST Annual Return Filing (GSTR-9/9C)

Your annual GST return reconciles a full year of monthly or quarterly filings into one consolidated statement — we prepare it, reconcile the numbers against your books, and file it before the deadline.

GSTR-9 is the annual return most regular GST-registered taxpayers need to file, summarising outward and inward supplies, tax paid, and input tax credit claimed across the year. GSTR-9C is a reconciliation statement that applies once turnover crosses the applicable threshold, comparing your annual return against your audited financial statements — the two are often filed together for larger businesses.

Most of the work isn't the form itself — it's reconciling GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, and your books against each other, since even small mismatches during the year (a return filed late, a credit note missed, a supply classified differently) surface as a gap here. We do this reconciliation first, before filing, so the number that goes on the return actually ties out.

Documents Required

  • GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B filed for every period in the financial year
  • Books of accounts and financial statements for the year
  • Details of input tax credit claimed, reversed, or ineligible during the year
  • HSN-wise summary of outward supplies
  • Audited financial statements (for GSTR-9C, where applicable)
  • Details of any amendments, credit notes, or debit notes issued during the year

How It Works

1

Data Reconciliation

Your GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, and books are matched against each other to catch mismatches before they become notices.

2

Draft Preparation

We prepare the GSTR-9 (and GSTR-9C, if applicable) draft and walk you through anything that needs a decision from you.

3

Review & Sign-Off

You review the draft before anything is filed — no surprises after submission.

4

Filing & Acknowledgement

We file on the portal and hand over the filed copy and acknowledgement for your records.

Not sure if GSTR-9C applies to you this year? It depends on your turnover — send us your numbers and we'll tell you.

Common Questions

FAQ

Do I need to file GSTR-9 if I'm a small business?

Composition taxpayers and businesses below certain turnover levels have had exemptions or simplified requirements in different years — this is one of the first things we check against your specific turnover before deciding whether filing is mandatory, optional, or not required.

What's the difference between GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C?

GSTR-9 is the annual return itself, filed by regular taxpayers. GSTR-9C is a reconciliation statement comparing that return against your audited books, required once turnover crosses the applicable threshold — it's a check on GSTR-9, not a replacement for it.

What if there's a mismatch between my GSTR-1/GSTR-3B and my books?

This is normal and usually fixable — most businesses have some gap from a late filing, a missed credit note, or a classification difference somewhere in the year. We reconcile and explain each difference before it goes on the annual return, rather than filing first and hoping it doesn't get flagged.

What happens if I file the annual return late or not at all?

Late filing typically attracts a late fee that accrues per day, and not filing at all can affect your compliance rating and invite department scrutiny. We track your filing deadline as part of the engagement so it doesn't slip.
